Hypnotherapy is a form of guided hypnosis where the hynotherapist and their client work together to bring about desired changes at the unconscious (subconscious) level, whether to remove negative traits or promote positive ones, for example giving up smoking, or overcoming fears and phobias, boosting confidence or enhancing relaxation. It uses various techniques to relax and occupy the conscious part of the mind, allowing the therapist to work with the more powerful and positive unconscious part to bring about deep-rooted and helpful changes. Is it safe? Will I lose control?Hypnosis is a natural state we all experience frequently and as such is not dangerous at all, in fact it is a deeply restful state. You cannot become stuck in a trance, the worse that can happen is that you would go to sleep ! Hypnotherapy works by using positive suggestions and imagery in conjunction with the power of the unconscious mind, any attempt to instill negative thoughts or behaviours not in line with your core values would automatically be rejected. Hypnotherapy works best as a collaborative process between therapist and client, where both work together to produce the positive changes agreed in the initial consultation. It is not a case of the hypnotherapist taking over the clients mind (forget the stage show image of hypnosis, hypnotherapy is not like that!) It is important to state that hypnotherapy is a powerful aid to making positive changes but it is not enough if you are not clear and committed to your goals on a personal level, for instance hypnotherapy alone won't make you stop smoking if deep down you don't really want to ! How many sessions will I need? This will vary greatly depending on what you wish to achieve and your own motivations and life experiences, but hypnotherapy aims to bring about fairly rapid changes so generally you should start to notice positive differences quickly. It is possible that one or two sessions will be all you need, but three to five is a rough average. What happens during a therapy session? The initial session will be my chance to find out about what you wish to change and why, and to explain the techniques available and how they work. It is a chance for you to look at your lifestyle overall and where you wish to head for in your future. Everything discussed is of course in full confidence. After this consultation we can then proceed with the hypnotherapy session. The initial session is usually about an hour and a half, with subsequent sessions around an hour. How much does it cost? Each session is charged at £45.00, payable by cheque with card or cash. Where does the therapy take place? At present I am offering a visiting service within the local area, where you can experience the benefits of hypnosis and N.L.P. within the comfort of your own home. All that is needed is somewhere relatively peaceful and free from disturbance to allow you the privacy to relax. |
